Ornament is not applied, it is constructed. Ornament is not something added; it is something shaped. AOI WANAKA explores the inner self that exists in the tension between masculinity and femininity. Lace, embroidery, jacquard, and knit. These are not simply decorative elements, they are fundamental components that shape the structure of each garment. Drawing from Japanese craftsmanship, the designer works closely with her production team, continually refining and verifying each detail in an attentive and demanding creative search. At AOI WANAKA, the approach to garment creation is guided by five forms of "Omoi", five expressions of feeling and intention. Natsukai (懐い) : a tenderness toward the passing of time. Omoi (思い) : the emotions woven into everyday life. Omoi (想い) : feelings deeply rooted within oneself. Omoi (憶い) : the gentle act of tracing memories. Omoi (念い) : a constant will that continues to aspire. By layering these five forms of "Omoi", the designer creates garments that stay close to the heart, pieces that remain with you and gain meaning as time passes.
